Chemical studies onGoniothalamus tapisMiq.

Abstract: Ten secondary metabolites were identified from Goniothalamus tapis Miq. The structures of these compounds were elucidated using spectroscopic analyses. It was revealed for the first time that 3-methyl-1H-benz[f]indole-4,9-dione was produced by the organism.

“…Recently, 10 compounds including 3‐methyl‐1 H ‐benz[ f ]indole‐4,9‐dione and cryptomeridiol were identified in G. tapis . However, the other compounds isolated differed from those isolated in this study as the previous study did not report the presence of styryl‐lactones but the presence of scorazanone, merioesinol and six phenanthrene lactams (Efdi et al ., ). Phytochemical study on the bark of G. uvaroides yielded compounds 1 , (+)‐goniopypyron ( 5 ) (Colegate et al ., ), (+)‐isogoniopypyrone ( 6 ) (Wang et al ., ) (+)‐isoaltholactone ( 7 ) (Colegate et al ., ), (+)‐goniofufurone ( 8 ) (Zhang et al ., ), 10 , 12 and dimethyl terephthalate ( 13 ) (DMT) (Fig.…”

“…The genus Goniothalamus comprises about 160 species (Wiart, 2007), growing in Asia and many of them are used as the traditional medicine in several countries (Surivet and Vatele, 1999;Wiart, 2007) such as Vallay fever Typhoid fever (root of G. tapis), Scabies (leaves of G. macrophyllus), Rheumatism, Tympanites (seeds of G. amuyon Merr) and stomachic (Efdi et al, 2010;Surivet and Vatele, 1999;Wiart, 2007). In Thailand, found nine species (Tip-Pyang et al, 2010).…”
