Chemical modification of PVC

Abstract: The degradation of PVC at a processing temperature is mostly caused by its abnormal and unstable molecular structures. It .has been pointed out that its allyl chloride structures play a significant role as the abnormal and unstable structures. Inasmuch as the allyl chloride structures are markedly more chemically active than the normal structure, the selective chemical treatments are applicable to the allyl chloride structures. The thermal stability of .PVC can be remarkably improved by treating PVC with certa… Show more

“…Modification of PVC can generally be achieved by nucleophilic substitution reactions of chlorine atoms as an appropriate method of improving properties [2]. Modifications of PVC with many nucleophiles, such as I À , SCN À , OH À , N À 3 and phthalimide anion [3], pyrazole, 3,5-dimethylpyrazole and 2-mercaptobenzimidazole [4], 1,4-phenylenediamine [5], ethylenediamine [6], potassium ethyl xanthogenate [7], amino thiophenol [8], were studied.…”

“…[1] The most common reactives used in the reaction with PVC are different types of organic sulfur compounds. [2 -14] Some of these have been found to be an effective initiator for radical thermal or photopolymerization which can be used to prepare graft copolymers.…”

“…solution and in the condensed state. [1][2][3][4][5] Duchacek and Kuta 13 have crosslinked PVC by tetramethyl-thiuramdisulphide in the presence CHEMICAL CROSSLINKING of zinc oxide. They found the activation energy for Modification of PVC by crosslinking has aroused the crosslinking reaction to be 106 KJ mol.…”
