“…It was observed that fresh BLEO has excellent AA showing lower IC 50 value. The lower IC 50 value gives a better protective action and shows a strong ability of the EO to act as DPPH scavenger and vice versa that were required to achieve 50% scavenging reaction (Ray et al, ). This formation of reduced DPPH‐H also depends on the presence of eugenol compound (Amma, Rani, Sasidharan, & Sreekumar, ) which was found in BLEO.…”

“…For the assessment of the antioxidant activity of EOs based on the ABTS method [33], 7 mM ABTS• + (Sigma Aldrich, Darmstadt, Germany) was prepared and mixed with 2.45 mM ammonium persulfate (Sigma Aldrich, Darmstadt, Germany) and kept under darkness for 16 h. Afterwards, the ABTS• + solution was diluted 50-fold with ethanol (Sigma Aldrich, Darmstadt, Germany) and one mL of ABTS• + was mixed with one mL of the various concentrations of EOs (50, 100, 150 and 200 µg/mL in ethanol). The absorbance of the samples was read at 734 nm.…”

“…Next, 2.5 mL of the supernatant were mixed with 2.5 mL of distilled water and 0.5 mL ferric chloride (0.1%) (Merck, Darmstadt, Germany) solution. The absorbance of the samples was recorded at 700 nm using a UV-visible spectrophotometer (Analytik jena, SPEKOL, 1500, Munich, Germany) [33].…”
