Chemical constituents of Distictella elongata (Vahl) Urb. (Bignoniaceae)

Abstract: Pectolinarin, a flavone heteroside, was isolated from Distictella elongata (Vahl) Urb. leaves ethanol extract, along with a mixture of ursolic, pomolic and oleanolic acids, besides β-sitosterol. Their structures were established on the basis of spectral analysis ( 1 H and 13 C NMR, 1 D and 2 D) and they were compared with literature. This is the first report on the occurrence of this flavonoid in a species of the Bignoniaceae family.

“…Compound 1 was identified as pectolinarin (Fig. 1) by the spectroscopic data and comparison with a previous report in the literature (Simoes et al 2013). Pectolinarin (1) has shown significant anti-inflammatory activity in various in vivo models as well as anti-allergic and analgesic properties (Martinez-Vazquez et al 1998;Lim et al 2008).…”

“…Fractions F9–F14 (991 mg), in which the antifungal activity was concentrated, were purified by semipreparative HPLC: sample (80 mg/mL, total volume 2.5 mL), Luna C 18 column (250 mm × 21.20 mm i.d., 10 μm), with a gradient elution by CH 3 CN–H 2 O–MeOH (5% CH 3 CN in 5 min, 40% CH 3 CN in 60 min, purge 100% MeOH in 65 min, and 5% CH 3 CN in 175 min), a flow rate of 10 mL/min, injection volume of 500 μL, detection at 320 nm, to afford forsythoside A ( 3 , t R 8.69 min), verbascoside ( 4 , t R 8.95 min), and isoverbascoside ( 5 , t R 9.43 min) . From fractions F16 (77 mg) and F18 (35 mg), yellow solids precipitated (30 and 7 mg, respectively), which were identified as pectolinarin ( 7 ) and linarin ( 8 ) …”

“…Rutin is reported to demonstrate broad range of biological activities such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neuroprotective, antiviral, anti-ulcer and anti-cancer activities [26] . Pectolinarin is a flavnone heteroside reported to be present in Bignoneaceae family members with anti-oxidant, antiinflammatory and hepatoprotective activities [27] . Quercetin (3,5,7,3´,4´pentahydroxy flavone) is one of the most abundant bioflavonoids mainly present in edible fruits and vegetables.…”
