Chemical Composition of Aspergillus creber Extract and Evaluation of its Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Activities

Abstract: Among the species belonging to the Aspergillus section Versicolores, Aspergillus creber has been poorly studied and still unexplored for its biological activities. The present study was undertaken to analyze A. creber extract and to evaluate its in vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. UHPLC-MS/MS analysis of A. creber extract allowed the characterization of five known fungal metabolites including: asperlactone, emodin, sterigmatocystin, deoxybrevianamide E, and norsolorinic acid. The highest antimic… Show more

“…The strain demonstrated fungistatic and fungicidal activity against C. albicans. The results obtained are similar to those found by Sakhri et al (2019), in which an Aspergillus crebe strain exhibited only antifungal activity when evaluated against the pathogens: E. coli, P. aeruginosa, C. albicans, and C. glabrata. Aspergillus genus has a worldwide distribution and contain a large number of species, which stands out for producing a range of natural products with biological activities (Lotfy et al, 2018), such as asperlicin, echinocandin B, and fumagillin isolated from A. alliaceus, A. nidulans, and A.…”

“…We showed the biosynthesis of norsolorinic acid by A. jensenii, A. protuberus, A. puulaauensis and A. tabacinus when it was previously only reported for A. creber (Sakhri et al, 2019). This study also provides a first insight into the biosynthesis of STE precursors (versicolorin A and 6-demethylsterigmatocystin) and derivatives (8-O-methylsterigmatocystin and 5-methoxysterigmatocystin) by Aspergillus species of the series Versicolores.…”
