Chemical Composition and Physicochemical Analysis of Opuntia dillenii Extracts Grown in Morocco

Abstract: The chemical composition and physicochemical properties of hexane and ethyl acetate extracts of skin, juice, and seeds of Opuntia dillenii fruit collected from three Moroccan regions (Oujda, Nador, and Essaouira) were studied. The study revealed that the seed oil extracts presented the highest yield of 13.12%, followed by the skin fraction (1.77%) and the juice extract (0.49%). The evaluation of fatty acid compositions using GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of linoleic acid as a dominating unsaturated fatt… Show more

“…The sample components were ionized in the Electron Ionization (EI) mode at 70 eV and a scanned mass range of 40 to 300 m/z. The NIST mass spectral library of the CG‐MS data system was used to compare the results [34–36] . The peak area was used to compute the percentage composition.…”

“…To perform qualitative and semi-quantitative analysis, a solution of 1 µL of the sample prepared in hexane (50 mg gG 1 ) was injected in split mode (split ratio = 50-80) and the GC-MS system was operated in scan mode. The identification of the chemical composition of samples was assessed based on the comparison process between their mass spectra and the data stored at the level of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST147) 15 . Regarding the data collection, the LabSolutions of 2.5 was used.…”
