Chemical- and effect-oriented exposomics: Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR)

Abstract: Exposomic studies of the rapidly changing environment of the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) after its impounding is elaborated as a novel field of human and environmental research. Molecular exposomics is focused on the measure of all exposures to molecules and especially persistent organic pollutants-like compounds are of emerging interest due to their lifetime existence in the environment and humans. Theoretical considerations in general and particular for the TGR are deduced and presented using quantitative a… Show more

“…The SPMD is designed to sample the truly dissolved fraction by the thermodynamically driven process of solute partitioning between the aqueous and lipid phases. In this respect, SPMD mimic the bioconcentration process of HOCs in aquatic organisms thus is defined as virtual organism (VO) (Schramm et al, 2013). The use of VO to complement or to replace fish has been proven to meet the goals of many monitoring programs under controlled laboratory conditions (Lu and Wang, 2003).…”

“…So far, most of the data on safety assessment of water samples from TGR region has been analyzed based on chemical analysis 5 , 11 , 43 . In contrast, the exposomics is urgently used to effectively assess the safety issue in the environment in the TGR region 44 . In China, Chongqing is a city with heavy industry in the central urban area.…”

“…of real organisms (Schramm et al, 2013) and was used to collect 29 bioavailable OCP-contaminants in the reservoir from the great dam to the upstream city Chongqing. In this study, the VOs were prepared using lay-flat polyethylene tubing (from VWR Ismaning, Germany; 2.5 cm wide and 65 μm film thickness).…”
