Three new bisabolocurcumin ethers, named demethoxybisabolocurcumin ether (1), bisabolocurcumin ether (2), and didemethoxybisabolocurcumin ether (3), along with two known compounds, 4 and 5, were isolated from the AcOEt extract of the rhizomes of Curcuma longa L. Their structures were established by the analysis of NMR and MS data. The new compounds 1 -3, which possess a new 1,7-diarylheptanoid skeleton linked with a bisabolone-type sesquiterpene substructure by a CÀO bond, were found for the first time in a natural source. , and hypoglycemic properties [10]. Up to now, from C. longa, curcuminoids, sesquiterpenoids, and their derivatives were reported as components [11]. In our phytochemical investigation, three new bisabolocurcumin ethers, compounds 1 -3, were isolated from the title plant. In their structures, a bisabolone-type sesquiterpene substructure is combined with a curcuminoid moiety, connected via a CÀO bond. Two known compounds, (1E,4E)-1,5-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)penta-1,4-dien-3-one (4) [12] and (1E,4E,6E)-1,7-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)hepta-1,4,6-trien-3-one (5) [13], were also isolated.In this article, the isolation and structure determination of the three new compounds are described.

Curcuma longa has well-known insecticidal and repellent effects on insect pests, but its impact on Trichoplusia ni is unknown. In this study, the compound ar-turmerone, extracted and purified from C. longa rhizomes, was identified, and its insecticidal effects, along with turmeric powder, curcuminoid pigments and crude essential oil were evaluated against this important agricultural pest. The role of natural (sesamol and piperonal) and synthetic [piperonyl butoxide (PBO)] synergists under laboratory and greenhouse conditions were also evaluated. The concentration of ar-turmerone in C. longa rhizomes harvested was 0.32% (dwt). Turmeric powder and its derivatives caused 10–20% mortality in third instar T. ni at a very low dose (10 μg/larva). Addition of PBO increased toxicity of turmeric powder and its derivatives (90–97% mortality) in most binary combinations (5 μg of turmeric powder or its derivatives +5 μg of PBO), but neither piperonal nor sesamol were active as synergists. The compound ar-turmerone alone and the combination with PBO reduced larval weight on treated Brassica oleracea in the laboratory and in greenhouse experiments, compared with the negative control. The compound ar-turmerone could be used as a low cost botanical insecticide for integrated management of cabbage looper in vegetable production.

Sitophilus oryzae are one of the most serious stored grain pests in the worldwide. Control by using synthetic insecticides with fumigation on can cause to S. oryzae resistance. One way of control that can be applied is to use a botanical insecticide. The research aimed to determine the synergism of A. conyzoides leaf powder, rhizome Curcuma longa and Z. officinale against imago S. oryzae. The research methods included single and mixed toxicity testing. Application leaf powders A. conyzoides, rhizome C. longa, and Z. officinale separately as well as an effective mixture of S. oryzae. Application A. conyzoides leaf powder single have LC50 value 3.96 mg/g and LC90 15.43 mg/g, Z. officinale rhizome has a value LC50 6.29 mg/g and LC90 15.43 mg/g, and rhizome powder C. longa has LC50 value 5.27 mg/g and 31.49 mg/g. The mixture leaf A. conyzoides with Z. officinale rhizome powder has an LC50 value of 2.47 mg/g and LC90 of 6.86 mg/g, whereas the mixture with powder C. longa has LC50 2.75 mg/g and 12.85 mg/g. The mixture of leaf powder A. conyzoides with rhizome C. longa and Z. officinale is more toxic than its single and synergistic to imago S. oryzae. The mixture A. conyzoides leaf powder with Z. officinale rhizome powder is more toxic and synergic than its mixture with rhizome powder C. longa. Application leaf powder A. conyzoides, rhizome powder C. longa and Z. officinale on single and mixture can be used to control S. oryzae pests in grain during storage
