Checklist of beetles (Coleoptera) of Canada and Alaska. Second edition

Abstract: All 8237 species-group taxa of Coleoptera known to occur in Canada and Alaska are recorded by province/territory or state, along with their author(s) and year of publication, in a classification framework. Only presence of taxa in each Canadian province or territory and Alaska is noted. Labrador is considered a distinct geographical entity. Adventive and Holarctic species-group taxa are indicated. References to pertinent identification keys are given under the corresponding supraspecific taxa in the data archi… Show more

“…These numbers appear comparable, although somewhat richer, to numbers from other regions such as Poland (7 spp., Jałoszyński et al 2011), Turkey (5 spp., Smetana 2004, Russian Far East (4 spp., Smetana 2004), Japan (8 spp. + 1 ssp., Smetana 2004), Taiwan (7 spp., Smetana 2004) and Canada (11 spp., Bousquet et al 2013).…”

“…Finally, we provide brief ecological data, and consider collecting methods for each species. The order of the families and genera in the species treatments follows Bousquet et al (2013). Species are ordered alphabetically within genera.…”

“…Native to the Palaearctic region, trans-Palaearctic (Schülke 2012a). Adventive in the Nearctic region (Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, United States, and Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland, Canada (Herman 1972, Bousquet et al 2013.…”

“…This is especially true for the rove beetles (Coleoptera: Staphylindae), where adventive species form about nine percent of the known Canadian fauna (Bousquet et al 2013). Since the baseline information for Canada was published by Bousquet et al (2013), additional species have been detected in North America with no sign of a decrease in introductions over time (Klimaszewski et al 2013).…”

Recently the large rove beetles in the subtribe Staphylinina (Staphylininae) occurring in northeastern North America were reviewed by Brunke et al (2011) and a key was provided for their identification.…”
