CHARYBDIS: a black hole event generator

Abstract: CHARYBDIS is an event generator which simulates the production and decay of miniature black holes at hadronic colliders as might be possible in certain extra dimension models. It interfaces via the Les Houches accord to general purpose Monte Carlo programs like HERWIG and PYTHIA which then perform the parton evolution and hadronization. The event generator includes the extra-dimensional 'grey-body' effects as well as the change in the temperature of the black hole as the decay progresses. Various options for m… Show more

“…As these new generators evolve and undergo extensive testing and validation, they are expected to enter the production shortly and eventually supersede their FORTRAN predecessors. Some production was also done with MadGraph [37] (vector boson scattering), CHARYBDIS [38] (black hole event generation), and CompHep [39,40] (specific exotic physics models). Discussion of the generation of cavern background, beam halo, and beam gas events follow in Sects.…”

“…BlackMax [25] (v2.01) and charybdis [26,27] (charybdis 2, v1.0.3) MC generators, followed by the parton showering simulation with pythia [28] (v6.420), and a fast parametric simulation of the CMS detector [29]. The MSTW2008lo68cl [30] parton distribution functions (PDF) are used for generating the signal samples.…”

“…Of course the energy requirement for BH pair production would yield an additional suppression factor and its proper consideration requires a Monte Carlo simulation. Therefore, we strongly recommend to include in future versions of the BH event generators charybdis [66] and catfish [67] a detailed treatment of production and evaporation of near-extremal supersymmetric BHs.…”
