Charge–Discharge Behavior of Secondary Organic Radical Battery Using 2-Aryl Nitronyl Nitroxides as the Cathode Active Material

Abstract: Charge–discharge study of secondary organic battery using 2-aryl nitronyl nitroxides (2-aryl-4,5-dihydro-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-3-oxido-3-imidazolio-1-oxyls) as the cathode active material was performed. The electrochemical study showed that the nitronyl nitroxides afford a stable cation on oxidation and an anion on reduction. The charge–discharge study revealed that the organic radical battery works with the capacity corresponding to the two-electron process.
