“…Regarding air-mercury surface tension, Honold and Skau [130], and some authors after them, used a value of γ = 0.474 N/m. Nowadays, a more precise value (i.e., γ = 0.485 N/m) is usually quoted [131], with small variations with temperature.…”

“…Most HgP applications that can be found in scientific literature are related with characterization of powders [144,145], rocks [146], coal [147], zeolites [148], and similar porous materials [131,[149][150][151]. The newest research on HgP is related to the characterization of porous properties of batteries [152], catalytic materials [153], ceramics for inkjet technology [154] and electrolyzers [155].…”

“…Two of the three media were characterized in the GEPEA laboratory and are used for particle removal from air: a raw filter of G4 type (named Medium A) according to the European Standard EN 779-2012 and the fibrous support of a bi-layered media of E10 type (named Medium B) according to the European Standard EN 1822. The experimental characterization of the bilayered medium, and of its fibrous support is detailed in Theron et al (2017). The sample thicknesses Z have been measured with a caliper for Medium A.…”

“…Such analyses have been performed on Medium B (e.g. Theron et al, 2017). The measurement performed on a sample of 10 mm in diameter enabled the determination of a similar mean porosity to that obtained by mercury porosimetry.…”

“…Among those disadvantages, the most important is pore size nonuniformity. The pore size of membrane filters is usually measured by indirect methods such as gas adsorption analysis, mercury porosimetry, and the bubble point method. Even when indirect evaluation methods show a uniform pore size, the direct observation of the membrane filter surface under an electron microscope reveals large variations in the pore size and shape. On the other hand, track-etched polymer membranes, which are obtained by dissolving ion tracks formed by ion implantation into polymer membranes, have uniformly sized tubular pores. , However, in this membrane formation method, when the ion beam irradiation dose is increased to increase the pore density, ion beam trajectories overlap, and multiple pores are combined.…”
