Characterization of Some Master Mg-X System (Ca, Mn, Zr, Y) Alloys Used in Medical Applications

Abstract: Ultralight magnesium alloys are wide used in the medical field, especially for biodegradable implants. Although they are wide used, magnesium has low corrosion resistance. To improve this resistance, different types of alloys based on magnesium and Ca, Mn, Zr and Y can be developed. The main goal of the present paper is to investigate the properties of some master alloy based on Mg-X system (Ca ,Mn, Zr, Y) used in the development of biodegradable based alloys of Mg. The surface morphology was characterized usi… Show more

“…The values of the longitudinal elastic modulus of the Ti-Mo alloys compared to the classical ones are shown in figure 5. The alloys of the β type have much lower values of the longitudinal elastic modulus compared to the α or α+ β alloys, which is why research and their development is a priority for researchers [7,11,[33][34][35].…”

“…The manufacturing process of the experimental alloys used master alloys procured from Hunan China Co. [41,42] with the mass percentages shown in Table 1. The Mg-based alloys were obtained through a classical melting process using an induction furnace in an Ar-protected environment in a 675-700 • C temperature field for 30minutes from a square section of the initial materials, as in previous research [43].…”

“…The master alloys used for sample manufacturing were purchased from Hunan China Co., Hunan, China [51,52] and they have the chemical composition presented in Table 1. The casting of Mg alloys was performed in an induction furnace (Inductro S.A., Bucharest, Romania) with an inert Ar5.0 protective atmosphere at a temperature of 680-690 • C for 30 min using rectangular bars as raw materials.…”
