Characterization of radiochromic films as a micrometer‐resolution dosimeter by confocal Raman spectroscopy

Abstract: Purpose: Micrometer spatial resolution dosimetry has become inevitable for advanced radiotherapy techniques. A new approach using radiochromic films was developed to measure a radiation dose at a micrometer spatial resolution by confocal Raman spectroscopy. Methods: The commercial radiochromic films (RCF), EBT3 and EBT-XD, were irradiated with known doses using 50, 100, 200, and 300 kVp, and 6-MV x rays. The dose levels ranged from 0.3 to 50 Gy. The Raman mapping technique developed in our early study was used… Show more

“…Therefore, to avoid the long irradiation time, the calibration films were exposed to 200 kVp xrays. 4 The films which were in direct contact with the GNF were exposed to 50 and 120 kVp x-ray beam. The delivered dose to those films was 0.5 Gy, following the same irradiation procedure as previous films.…”

“…A Raman mapping technique developed in our previous study was used in this work. 4 A CRS system with a 30-μm pinhole was used (DONGWOO OPTRON model Rambossstar, Korea). By utilizing a confocal system, the lateral resolution of a Raman scattering signal detection is significantly improved to approximately 0.6 µm.…”
