This work aimed to study the preparation and physicochemical properties characterization of oxidized gadung starch obtained from oxidation process implementing combined H 2 O 2 -UV irradiation. The photo-oxidation process was carried out in a well-mixed slurry reaction system at ambient temperature. The extent of oxidation was determined based on the carboxyl and the carbonyl contents of the oxidized gadung starch. The results show that oxidation process altered the carbonyl and carboxyl contents of the starch. Except the morphology of the starch, the swelling power, solubility and gelatinization temperature of the starch were severely affected by H 2 O 2 /UV oxidation process.

RESUMENEl uso excesivo de materiales derivados del petróleo como: combustibles, lubricantes, colorantes, disolventes, asfaltos, fibras textiles y plásticos ha generado a través del tiempo un grave problema ambiental, debido, a los largos periodos de degradación de estos materiales. Es por esto que hoy en día la investigación se centra en los plásticos ya que poseen poca vida útil, estos residuos terminan depositándose en rellenos sanitarios, océanos, lagos y demás fuentes hídricas generando la contaminación de este recurso vital para la vida, todo esto, provoca la muerte de especies animales y la desestabilización del ecosistema. La ciencia ha planteado soluciones tales como: reciclar, uso de papel y el desarrollo de materiales biodegradables siendo el almidón de sagú una alternativa como materia prima para la elaboración de este tipo de materiales. Esta investigación fue orientada a la elaboración de bioplástico utilizando como base almidón de sagú oxidado. Los estudios consisten en una caracterización fisicoquímica al almidón nativo, almidón oxidado y al bioplástico elaborado a base de almidón. Los análisis realizados fueron: porcentaje de grupos carbonilo y de grupos carboxilo, transparencia de los geles, microscopia electrónica de barrido donde se observó la apariencia irregular y los tamaños de los gránulos de almidón, además, el microscopio con EDS permitió observar las composiciones químicas simples de los gránulos, donde, los almidones oxidados tienen mayor porcentaje de oxigeno que el almidón nativo. En los análisis de difracción de rayos X se observa los patrones de difracción y el carácter semicristalino del almidón. El espectro de FT-IR muestra las bandas propias de los almidones nativos y oxidados. AbstrakPati alami dapat dibuat menjadi pati termodifikasi dengan sifat-sifat yang dikehendaki atau sesuai dengan kebutuhan. Komposit pati dan karet alam untuk pembuatan karet sheet sebagai alternatif mengurangi pengunaan karet alam dalam jumlah besar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik karet sheet dengan bahan baku komposit modifikasi pati -lateks. Rancangan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) non faktorial, setiap perlakuan diulang 3 (tiga) kali. Faktor tunggal perlakuan perbandingan modifikasi pati dan lateks (Perlakuan A Modifikasi pati : lateks = 1 : 1 (500 ml : 500 ml, Perlakuan B Modifikasi pati : lateks = 1 : 2 (500 ml : 1000 ml dan Perlakuan C Modifikasi pati : lateks = 2 : 1 (1000 ml : 500 ml)). Parameter yang diamati meliputi plastisitas awal (Po), Indeks ketahanan plastisitas (PRI), viskositas mooney dan kadar kotoran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Perlakuan perbandingan modifikasi pati dan lateks, berpengaruh terhadap plastisitas awal (Po), Indeks ketahanan plastisitas (PRI), viskositas mooney dan kadar kotoran. Karakteristik karet sheet memenuhi syarat mutu Standard Indonesian Rubber (SIR) 20 sesuai SNI 06-1903-2000 dan standar mutu karet sheet komersil, dengan karakteristik plastisitas awal (Po), indeks ketahanan plastisitas (PRI), viskositas mooney dan kadar kotoran.Kata kunci : karet sheet, komposit modifikasi pati-lateks, lateks, pati modifikasi.
