Characterization of oil from roasted hemp seeds using the PDSC and FTIR techniques

Abstract: The purpose of the present work was to characterize oil extracted from roasted hemp seeds using the PDSC and FTIR techniques. Roasting was conducted in a laboratory convective dryer. DSC method was used for the determination of the oxidative stability of oil extracted from hemp seeds. Pressure differential scanning calorimetry experiments were carried out using a DSC Q20, TA Instruments, coupled with a high-pressure cell. The isothermal temperature (393 K) was used for the data collection. The oxidative induct… Show more

“…They also have antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties [ 44 ]. Phytosterols also enhance the antioxidant activity of the oil [ 45 ]. In the present study, irrespective of hemp variety and oil extraction method, the content of β-sitosterol was the highest (1.23 to 1.35 mg/g- Table 5 ).…”

“…Roasting processing also can protect PUFA in seeds from self‐oxidation and increase the antioxidative activities of bioactive compounds such as phenolics and tocophenols (Krings & Berger, 2001; Gelmez et al ., 2009; Jang et al ., 2018). Hempseed oil with the roasting temperature of 120°C and retention time of 30 min was reported having the best oxidation stability (Bryś et al ., 2019). Roasting with high temperature and long duration (e.g.…”
