Characterization of novel lncRNAs in upper thoracic spinal cords of rats with myocardial ischemia‑reperfusion injuries

Abstract: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) is a significant problem in clinical cardiology, and refers to a more serious myocardial injury caused by blood recanalization after a period of myocardial ischemia, as compared with injury caused by vascular occlusion. The spinal cord, as the primary afferent and efferent center of cardiac sensory and sympathetic nerve fibres, has received increased attention in recent years with regards to the regulation of MIRIs. Previous studies have revealed that MIRI has a st… Show more

“…It binds to the promoter of the myelin basic protein gene (MBP) and represses its transcription, leading to oligodendrocyte progenitor cell (OPC) differentiation disorder and demyelination disease [ 27 , 28 ]. MYEF2 has also been reported to be associated with haematopoietic stem cell generation [ 29 ] and myocardial ischemia–reperfusion injury [ 30 ]. However, little is known about the role of MYEF2 in tumor.…”

“…Recently, significant efforts have been made to understand the alterations of ncRNAs in different spinal cord segments and their contributions to specific outcomes of diseases [ 16 , 26 , 42 44 ]. The spinal cord is a complex and dynamic neural structure.…”

“…There is accumulating evidence of the interaction between the spinal cord and the heart [ 51 55 ]. We previously demonstrated the changes of novel lncRNAs in the upper thoracic spinal cord of rats with MIRI [ 42 ]. In recent years, there has been considerable effort to explore the relationship between cardiac sympathetic activity and cardiovascular diseases.…”

“…Furthermore, concerning spinal cord injury and the surgical procedure to which the animals were submitted, some aspects should be considered. In this sense, the different segments of the spinal cord end up by interfering in specific disease outcomes [ 56 , 57 ]. The spinal cord is a complex and dynamic neural structure, whose neurons, when injured, tend to interfere with the generation of sympathetic activity in many autonomic targets, including the heart and blood vessels [ 58 , 59 ], with evidence of the interaction between the spinal cord.…”
