Characterization of morphology and potential of pineapple genetic resources in peatland of Jambi Province

Abstract: Jambi Province has large peatlands (621,089 ha). Utilization of that land in agricultural sector will contribute in economic development of surrounding society. Tangkit and Paun Pineapple are plant genetic resource (PGR) that must be maintained and secured from extinction and erosion of genetic potential. This is because the real PGR continues to be utilized for the survival and welfare of the community. The research purpose was to know the morphological of PGR pineapple that have potential to grow, produce an… Show more

“…Although this technique has several weaknesses, such as it depends on the season and growth phase of the plant, the morphological identification provides an overview that can directly be distinguished from differences in characters and advantages of a genotype. The use of morphological characters in pineapple identification has been reported by Hadiati et al (2003), Machado et al (2011), Burhooa & Ranghoo-sanmukhiya (2012), Hernita et al (2019), andRodriguez-alfonso et al (2020) using some of the available characters. The use of many characters in identification often results in excessive information (Daher et al 1997) because of the many correlated characters or low genetic diversity.…”

“…The income from the duku proceeds is quite large. For example, in the Kumpeh area of Jambi Province, the duku season generally runs for 3 months, can provide an average farmer income of 9 billion for farmers, and provide business opportunities for 500 duku fruit traders [4,5].…”

“…Several studies have been conducted to study the incidence of the disease in South Sumatera Province, and Jambi Province. The three main studies on the incidence of this disease, namely research in Jambi in 2005, it is suspected that this disease was infected by Phytophthora palmivora on the basis of similarity of symptoms with stem-canker on durian, so that the disease of death molting duku in Jambi is often called stem-canker disease [5]. Then continued in the 2009 study and is still in the estimation of the cause of the disease P. palmivora.…”
