Characterization of facial skin of various Asian populations through visual and non‐invasive instrumental evaluations: influence of age and skincare habits

“…Most of the instrumental findings suggest that the functional aspects of the skin surface deteriorate with such seasonal changes. These findings further extend our previously obtained results, which described the multiple effects of increasing age , by evaluating the impact of seasons in the same population. Based on the dermatological assessments in this study, these subjects from the different Asian cities tended to have slightly smoother skin, slightly less wrinkles, less mottled hyperpigementation and lentigines, and a decrease in firmness during winter compared with the summer season.…”

“…A more recent study conducted in eight Asian cities found that Asian skin is generally darker with age. [9] Using colorimetry to objectively record changes, we found that after 35 years of age, there was a slight whitening of unexposed skin and a slight darkening on the exposed area with age. This may account for the overall impression of facial darkening compared to the whole body, even though darkening is mild.…”
