Characterization of an EDTA Bonded Conducting Polymer Modified Electrode:  Its Application for the Simultaneous Determination of Heavy Metal Ions

Abstract: An EDTA bonded conducting polymer modified electrode (EDTA-CPME) was fabricated by polymerization of 3',4'-diamino-2,2';5',2''-terthiophene monomer on a GCE, followed by the reaction with EDTA in the presence of catalyst. The surface of the resulting modified electrode was characterized with EQCM, ESCA, SEM, Auger electron spectroscopy, scanning Auger microscopy, and electrochemical methods. The amounts of polymer and EDTA attached on the polymer film were determined. Simple immersing of the EDTA-CPME into a s… Show more

“…Low solubility of modified monomers in aqueous media and often low conductivity of resulting polymer can be crucial for biomolecule immobilization. Suitable derivatives are pyrrole and thiophene bearing carboxyl function at the -position (Rahman et al, 2003;G. Li et al, 2000;Cha et al, 2003;Freitas et al, 2005;Kong et al, 2003;Peng et al, 2005) or Nsubstituted pyrrole (Culvo-Munoz et al, 2005).…”

“…Some investigators implanted analytical reagents into the structure of current-conducting polymers [148-154, 162-163, 178] providing the enhanced selectivity of the polymer film. The high selectivity to metal ions was achieved [174][175] because polymers with covalently grafted ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) groups were synthesized on GCE. The response selectivity is efficiently improved by the "guest-host" interaction.…”
