“…The concentration of metals (Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn) shows increased values of Fe (2.676 μg/m 3 ) and Mn (3.495 μg/m 3 ) compared to samples collected before and after the intense dust event (Table 3). These concentrations are also several times higher than those normally measured in the same area (Mifka et al, 2021). Normally, the concentrations of Fe and Mn, as well as Ca and Ti, are higher during Saharan dust advection than the annual mean values for a given area (Federici et al, 2018).…”

“…For the first time, the climatological aspects of dust transport and the annual cycle of dust deposition over the Adriatic Sea are evaluated. Despite some studies dealing with air‐quality monitoring for the eastern Adriatic (Alebić‐Juretić & Mifka, 2017; Cvitešić Kušan et al., 2020; Jeričević et al., 2016, 2019; Merico et al., 2020; Mifka et al., 2021; Telišman Prtenjak et al., 2009, 2013), this research is mainly focused on detecting the synoptic situations (modes) related to the most intense dust deposition events. For each synoptic mode, the goals were to examine and determine (a) dust emission intensity and source locations, (b) the atmospheric transport routes and spatial distribution of dust deposition in the Adriatic, (c) the threshold for dust deposition events (DDEs) for the entire study area, and (d) their annual averages.…”

“…This study has been conducted in collaboration with other research on the quantification of metals found in emissions from ships in Guanabara Bay, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by means of the MOUDI particle impactor (Micro-Orifice Uniform Deposite Impactor) for sampling. Although there are several studies on metal emissions from maritime transport, studies with multi-stage impactors are more limited (Gregoris et al, 2021 ; Mifka et al, 2021 ). The present work seeks to expand the information on the impact of maritime transport for measurements segregated by sizes of metals and to assist public policymaking for air quality with regard to ships, as their emissions need to be regulated at local, regional, and international levels.…”
