Characterization of a Versatile Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacterium Pseudomonas mediterranea Strain S58

Abstract: Plant growth-promoting rhizobacterial strain S58 was isolated from the tobacco rhizosphere. It showed strong antagonism against a battery of plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria, and controlled wheat sharp eyespot and tobacco wildfire diseases efficiently. Further tests showed that strain S58 solubilized organic phosphate and produced siderophore, protease, ammonia, and indole-3-acetic acid. In Arabidopsis thaliana, it promoted plant growth and changed root system architecture by restricting the growth of prima… Show more

“…Members of the genus Sphingomonas suppressed the growth of foliar pathogen Pseudomonas syringae on A. thaliana under laboratory conditions and protected the plant from disease (Bulgarelli et al, 2015). A Pseudomonas mediterranea strain S58 isolated from tobacco rhizosphere proved to be versatile plant growth-promoting agent with multiple beneficial traits for plants, such as solubilizing organic phosphate, producing siderophore, protease, ammonia, and indole-3-acetic acid (Gu et al, 2020).…”

“…brassicacearum from coastal halophytic medicinal plant. Moreover, Pseudomonas species are known not only IAA production and ACC-deaminase activity, but also other PGP properties such as; nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization and siderophore production and Pseudomonas species have been reported intensively utilized in agricultural applications according to the literature (Gu et al, 2020).…”

“…Antagonistic tests were performed as described by Gu et al (2020) . For antagonism of pathogenic fungi, a 1 cm diameter agar plug with mycelium was placed in the center of an agar plate, and 10 μL cultures of strains 2P24, 2P24Δ hilA , 2P24Δ invF , and 2P24Δ invE-C were dropped on the plate at four directions, approximately 3 cm from the center.…”
