Characterization and functionalization by sol–gel route of SiC foams

Abstract: Ceramic foam materials are commonly used for various applications, including catalyst supports or solar receivers. SiC foams are good candidates for the latter application as solar receivers. Its efficiency is directly related to the geometry, which can be evidenced by X-ray microtomography, and optical properties of the receiver. A promising route to add functionalities with homogenous and adhering oxide coatings onto complex SiC foams in a single step process is proposed. This oxide synthetic process is deri… Show more

“…The spectra showed crystalline materials with 2θ peaks lying at 24,42 ∘ (012), 33,54 ∘ (104), 36,54 ∘ (110), 41,46 ∘ (113), 50,12 ∘ (024), 54,86 ∘ (116), 63,62 ∘ (214), 65,20 ∘ (300). All peaks are identical to those corresponding to the Cr 2 O 3 phase indexed in the rhombohedral structure with an R-3c space group, as described in the 072-3533 JCPDS card [31,32]. The strong intensity of the peaks representing the preferential orientation in the (104), (110) and (116) planes indicates that thin films exhibit good crystallinity [33].…”

“…The extraction of geometrical and morphological information from different kinds of cellular materials using iMorph can be consulted in the previous studies. [14,20,22,40,51] The modeling approach presented in this article has led to an additional implementation in the software iMorph for the construction of the solid and fluid phase coupling graph and the extraction of specific geometrical measurements. The construction of the graph based on Plateau's laws is discussed here.…”

“…A plasticizer is added in the sol (polyethyleneglycol PEG 35000, Aldrich, 60 g/L) according to optimized previous works [23]. This plasticizer allows the pre-coat to accommodate the constraints due to the surface roughness.…”
