Characterization and expression analysis under bending and other abiotic factors of PtaZFP2, a poplar gene encoding a Cys2/His2 zinc finger protein

Abstract: In plants, mechanoperception and transduction of mechanical signals have been studied essentially in Arabidopsis thaliana L. and Lycopersicon esculentum L. plants, i.e., in nonwoody plants. Here, we have described the isolation of both the full-length cDNA and the regulatory region of PtaZFP2, encoding a member of Cys2/His2 zinc finger protein (ZFP) family in Populus tremula L. x Populus alba L. Time course analysis of expression demonstrated that PtaZFP2 mRNA accumulated as early as 5 min in response to a con… Show more

“…The in situ molecular reaction to mechanical deformation takes minutes (Martin et al 2009), while basipetal hormonal transmission of wind stimulus requires a longer time. Considering wind conditions at the monthly scale, the closer correlations with the chronologies of compression wood (Fig.…”

“…The homolog of this gene has also been found in poplar (Populus tremula 3 alba '717-1B4') and called PtaZFP2 (Martin et al, 2009). The deduced amino acid sequence of PtaZFP2 contains all typical conserved regions of Cys-2/His-2 transcription factors with two zinc fingers (Ciftci-Yilmaz and Mittler, 2008;Martin et al, 2009). In both walnut and poplar, transcript levels of ZFP2 are much higher after mechanical loading than after other abiotic factors such as saline and cold stresses (Leblanc-Fournier et al, 2008;Martin et al, 2009).…”

“…In woody plants, a primary mechanosensitive gene called JrZFP2 has recently been found in walnut (Juglans regia; Leblanc-Fournier et al, 2008). “…This TF belongs to the Cys-2/His-2-type zinc finger protein family that was previously reported to regulate defense responses against biotic and abiotic challenges (Ciftci-Yilmaz and Mittler, 2008). A Cys-2/ His-2-type zinc finger protein was previously identified in a poplar hybrid (Populus tremula 3 Populus alba; Martin et al, 2009). This gene, named PtaZFP2, was shown to be up-regulated in response to mechanical stress and wounding as well as cold and salt treatments .…”
