Characterization and Corrosion Behaviour of Selected Duplex Stainless Steels in Acidic and Acidic-Chloride Solution

Abstract: The 2101, 2205 and 2507 are duplex stainless steels. They have two phases: austenite and ferrite. The metallurgical characterization was performed by means of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with EDX and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). The corrosion behaviour was evaluated by potentiodynamic tests. The corrosion tests were conducted with the aid of potentiostat. The SEM and XRD revealed phases of austenite and ferrite without any intermetallic phase. The elemental analysis of the phases showed that the elements… Show more

“…Other orientations (211), (220), and (301) are also observed in both substrates, but with less preference . For the film on the stainless steel, (110), (200), and (211) peaks from the stainless steel substrate are also observed . Broader features are observed in the diffraction pattern of the film on soda lime glass.…”

“…The 2205 have better corrosion resistance than low nickel duplex stainless steels [5] while the 316 had better corrosion resistance than most austenitic stainless steels.…”

“…Duplex stainless steels (DSS) are family of steels having a two-phase microstructure with roughly the same volume fractions of ferrite and austenite. The advantageous properties of duplex stainless steels are based on the equilibrium of the microstructure [1]- [5]. The combination improved the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of these steels [2].…”

“…Em geral, a proporção entre as fases é de 50%, podendo variar de 30% a 70% de ferrita [1,2,3,4]. Para que essas proporções sejam atingidas, os aços duplex são submetidos à laminação a quente ou forjamento, laminação a frio, seguida de um recozimento para recristalização [5,6].…”
