Characterization and application of chicken eggshell as green adsorbents for removal of H2S from wastewaters

Abstract: Hydrogen sulfide is fatal to benthic aquatic lives as depletes the dissolved oxygen in their ecosystem. The present work evaluated on characterization and the application of chicken eggshell as green and economical adsorbents for the treatment of hydrogen sulfide from wastewaters. The grounded chicken eggshell were characterized into calcinate waste eggshell; activate carbon derived from wastes of eggshell (modified adsorbents) and eggshell without treatments (unmodified adsorbent). At the 250 mg/l concentrati… Show more

“…Rahayu and Hanifa (2017) have shown that eggshells can increase growth and facilitate digestion in piglets by mixing in pig food. Habeeb et al (2014) have investigated the benefits of eggshells that can be used for alternative cement materials. The same thing has also been revealed by Dapas (2020), Nandhini and Karthikeyan (2021) and Sathiparan (2021) that the high content of calcium carbonate in eggshells when powdered can be used as a substitute for Portland cement which has calcium carbonate as the main element (55-60%).…”

“…From the application of the calcined eggshell in the treatment of real electroplating wastewater, the calcined eggshell showed a promising removal capacity of heavy metal ions as well as it had a good neutralization capacity in the treatment of strong acidic wastewater. Habeeb et al 2014 evaluated the characterization and application of chicken eggshell as green and economical adsorbents for the treatment of hydrogen sulfide from wastewaters, which is fatal to benthic aquatic lives as it depletes the dissolved oxygen in their ecosystem. The results showed that the calcinate waste eggshell had the highest adsorption capacity.…”

“…There has been a warning signal of the industrial revolution, and that is an increase in waste production, which has brought toxic and hazardous wastes to the attention of the scientific community [ 1 ]. Agro-food from industrial and community fields contributes substantially to pollution, necessitating the address of this problem.…”
