Characteristics of the dielectric barrier corona discharges

Abstract: In this paper, the electrical characteristics of both the dielectric barrier corona discharge and the usual ac corona discharge have been studied in parallel with the ozone generation under the same operating conditions. Therefore, the corona discharges were formed inside two identical reactors in the form of a coaxial wire-to-cylinder with and without a dielectric barrier covering the inner surface of the cylinder. The two reactors have been fed by constant flow rates from the dry air and the oxygen gas indep… Show more

“…Generally, DBD plasma consists of numerous randomly distributed and highly luminous filaments (micro-discharge). With increasing the input power, the number of filaments and discharge intensity increase, and this relationship has been confirmed by experimental observation and simulation study [81][82][83]. As a consequence, the higher discharge power has the better CO 2 hydrogenation [84].…”

“…The corona discharge is one of the most typical discharge types, which happens in partial position in gas with enough electric field. Surface charge accumulation will take effect while insulation material falls in between of the electrodes, DBCD can happen along with different PD phenomena [1]- [2].…”

“…The advantage of this arrangement is the larger exposed area; the disadvantage is the small distance of several millimeters between the electrodes. Detailed description and a comparison of DBD with corona discharges have been published ( Yehia, 2019 ). The start-up company Plasmapp (Daejeon, South Korea) launched STERPACK, which is based on DBD and declared as an effective method of biofilm removal from plastics and foods ( Lee, 2018 ).…”
