Characteristics of Hydrolysis Resistant Polycaprolactone/Palm Kernel Oil Based Polyol

Abstract: Polycaprolactone (PCL) polyol was prepared by a ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone initiated by palm kernel oil (PKO) based polyol and 1,6-hexanediol to form a PCL/PKO based polyol. The properties of polyol were varied by their initiator:co-initiator weight ratio. The completion of polyol formation was characterized through Fourier Transformation Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Other parameters such as acid number and hydroxyl number of polyol were also studied to monitor the progress of reaction. FTI… Show more

“…58 , 59 The small peak at 1294 cm −1 was pertained to C-O and C-C stretching bonds in the PCL crystalline phase. 57 A sharp peak at a wavelength of 1235.18 cm −1 can be attributed to the C-O stretching bond both in HA and PCL. It was also possible that this peak was related to the vibration of the amide III group in the gelatin structure.…”

“…This peak was displaced to higher wavelengths from the original peak in the pure PCL absorption spectrum, which can be related to PCL interaction with the nanocomposite core of the scaffold. 56 , 57…”

“…The spectrum also showed two bands at 2944–2867 cm −1 , representing symmetric and asymmetric CH 2 stretching, respectively. The band observed at 732 cm −1 was assigned to the CH 2 rocking vibration of PCL, which indicates a linear chain aliphatic PCL structure [ 75 , 76 , 77 ].…”

“…Figures 8 and 9 show the FT-IR spectra of the RT27 CSS-PCM before and after 500 thermal cycles. The main bands detected related to PCL are the C-H bonds in the -CH2 stretching bands (2943-2866 cm −1 ), the -C=O stretching band (1722 cm −1 ), the -C-H bond in -CH2 bending bands (1470-1460 cm −1 ), the C-O and C-C stretching bands (1293 cm −1 ), the C-O-C stretching bands (1239-1164 cm −1 ), the OC-O stretching (1190 cm −1 ), the C-O stretching band, corresponding to the ester group vibration, (1108 cm −1 ) and -CH2 rocking bands (760-700 cm −1 ) [25][26][27]. The main bands detected related to RT27 paraffin content are the alkyl stretching bands (2956, 2920, and 2851 cm −1 ) [28].…”
