Characterisation of the Metabolism of Pogostone In Vitro and In Vivo Using Liquid Chromatography with Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: LC–MS was demonstrated to be a powerful tool for the metabolite identification of pogostone. The tentative identification of metabolites provides an insight for the metabolic clues of pogostone.

“…The transcription regulators are linked with other potential downstream genes (with white background) and biochemical compounds (with white background) via direct and indirect relationships (according to the IPA legend). Although metabolomics research including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry coupled with either liquid chromatography (LC-MS) or gas chromatography (GC-MS) [23] have been used to different degrees in research with transition cows [24, 25], only few examples of dataset integration exist [26] and none (to our knowledge) focused on the liver.

“…This method is useful in pharmacokinetic studies of preclinical investigations. Lately, Li et al [112] investigated the metabolic profile of pogostone in vitro and in vivo using LC-MS. Patchouli oil exhibited significant gastroprotective effects against gastric ulceration. According to them, the possible mechanism of anti-ulcerogenic potential of patchouli oil might be due to stimulation of COX-mediated PGE 2 , improvement of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory status, preservation of GBF and NP-SH, as well as boost of gastric mucus production [113].…”

“…Thus, metabolomics research is helpful for clinical diagnoses (Oresic et al 2006), drug discovery (Schneider et al 2003), and other bioscience. Metabolomics research methods include mainly nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), liquid chromatographyÀmass spectrometry (LC/MS), gas chromatographyÀmass spectrometry (GC/MS), and metabolic chips (Li et al 2014). Of these techniques, LC/MS is well suited for detecting complex metabolites and identifying potential markers in biological samples.…”
