Changes of Salivary Interleukine-17, Apelin, Omentin and Vaspin Levels in Normal Subjects and Diabetic Patients with Chronic periodontitis

Abstract: Background: Chronic periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease which is multifactorial. Diabetes mellitus is one of the major systemic factors to influence the severity of chronic periodontitis. Therefore, the aim of current study was to assess salivary biomarkers of Interleukine-17(IL-17), apelin, omentin and vaspin as putative candidates in the potential association between Diabetes mellitus and Chronic periodontitis. Methods: Whole saliva samples were collected from sixty adults sex and agematched pati… Show more

“…Vaspin upregulation was found in obesity and T2D which was suggested to act as a compensatory mechanism and to exert anti-inflammatory action through binding to GRP78/MTJ-1, a cell-surface receptor complex, after being translocated to the plasma membrane in response to ER stress and protect against ER stress-induced metabolic disorders [77]. However, other studies documented that vaspin can also exert a proinflammatory role [78]. RA FLSs exhibit proinflammatory cytokines induced GRP78 expression that was reported to be crucial for RA FLSs survival and proliferation and enhanced angiogenesis.…”

“…CD4 Th17 cells produce IL-17, a proinflammatory cytokine that stimulates the production of proinflammatory mediators [11]. IL-17 can enhance neurite outgrowth by acting on distal neurites and sympathetic somata, indicating a new role for IL-17 in the neuroanatomical plasticity, which occurs with inflammation [5,21]. This abnormal cytokine pattern plays a significant role in the immunopathogenesis of Polycystic ovary syndrome [22].…”

“…Hyperandrogenism, ovulatory dysfunction, and polycystic ovary morphology are all symptoms of this condition. [3][4][5][6]. Cytokines are small soluble polypeptides of immunological origin manufactured by macrophages, lymphocytes, monocyte, dendritic cells, neutrophils, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts [7].…”

“…Cytokines are a heterogeneous group of soluble small polypeptides with a wide range of inflammatory ,metabolic and immunomodulatory properties and tissue homeostasis, that play a critical role in mediating inflammatory processes and tissue homeostasis underlying pneumonia (7,8) .…”
