Changes in Gut Microbiota in Children with Atopic Dermatitis Administered the Bacteria Lactobacillus casei DN – 114001

Abstract: Gut microbiota was analyzed in children, aged 6-18 months and suffering from atopic dermatitis before and after 3 month supplementation of their diet with Lactobacillus casei DN--114001 in a dose of 109 cells daily. On completion of this period the total number of fecal Lactobacillus sp. cells decreased from 7.86 Log10 CFU/g to 6.40 Log10 CFU/g. After the next 5 months (without dietary supplementation with the probiotic bacteria) the level of Lactobacillus sp. cells was maintained at the latter value. During t… Show more

“…However, dexamethasonebased materials have disadvantages for biomedical purposes because of their side effects promoted to the body. 17,18 The PCL-CS membrane provided a similar result for cell viability when compared to the negative control (NC) (Figure 6a). The NC is based on an experiment with cells seeded without presence of membranes.…”

“…16 However, a study has related that dexamethasone could suppress the antimicrobial activity of gentamicin (and other antibiotics) when both are simultaneously administered to treat infections promoted by P. aeruginosa and other pathogens. 14 Besides, the use of dexamethasone and gentamicin are limited because they promote side effects to the central nervous system 17 and kidneys, 18 respectively. Yet, dexamethasone causes insomnia, indigestion, weight gain, acne, and gain of appetite.…”

“…e strains of Lactobacillus sp. with confirmed probiotic properties usually belong to the species of Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lacto bacillus casei, Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus salivarius and Lactobacillus plantarum (Słońska and Klimuszko, 2010;Klewicka et al, 2011). Due to they probiotic properties, they inhibit growth of several pathogenic microbes, can reduce incidence of traveller's diarrhoea, alleviate the course and shorten duration of some bacterial and viral diarrhoeas (e.g.…”

“…Bacteria of the Lactobacillus genus are frequently employed in probiotic preparations. e main duty of probiotic bacteria involves maintenance of microbiological equilibrium in alimentary tract through interactions with pathogenic bacteria (Słońska and Klimuszko, 2010;Klewicka et al, 2011). In addition, probiotic preparations manifest an anti-noeplastic activity (Burns and Rowland, 2000;Sand et al, 2007).…”
