Change of driver's reaction time depending on the amount of alcohol consumed by the driver - the case study

Abstract: Each driver should drive according to the actual road traffic rules of the country in which is he currently located. The law systems of various states of Europe allow an increased maximal blood alcohol level of driver. As the fact that no small number of road accidents is caused because of the influence of alcohol on the driver, it is necessary to focus the attention of the society on this issue. The paper deals with the influence of alcohol to change of the reaction time of the driver. During the project of t… Show more

“…From this article, the danger of drunk driving is evident. However, it is also clear from many other studies [65][66][67][68]. In terms of statistics, we have pointed out that the basic characteristics (median, mode, arithmetic mean, or standard deviation) are insufficient in similar research.…”

“…In this way, he loses the ability to see peripherally, which may lead to the inability to react to a moving obstacle [3]. In the experiment described in [43], the driver's reaction time after drinking a dose of alcohol was monitored by measuring the time from two synchronized cameras. The driver was tasked with stopping the vehicle (and thus reacting) to the simulated stimulus.…”

“…Due to infrastructure limitations and the growing motorisation index in many countries, especially in developing countries, problems with transport congestion are increasing. Road transport generates the highest social costs, including the costs of road traffic accidents [11,53,57], environmental degradation [33,55] and congestion [21,32]. Almost 3,700 people are killed daily all over the world in road traffic accidents 1 Lublin University of Technology, Department of Automation, Nadbystrzycka 36, 20-618, Lublin, Polska, e-mail: j.caban@pollub.pl involving pedestrians or different transport modes such as vehicles, buses, motorcycles, bicycles and trucks [52].…”
