“…Intranasal administration of acetylated PGP increased resistance to ulceration and accelerated the healing of ulcers. In contrast, Sangadzieva et al in the ethanol‐induced gastric ulcerations in the rat model have reported that both PGP and acetylated PGP impacted on expression cytokine level. Based on their results, gastroprotective effects of PGP have been confirmed, whereas the protective effects of acetylated PGP on the gastric mucosa seem to be unclear.…”

“…The most likely mechanism of gastroprotective PGP function includes an increase in the expression of IL‐1β, improving the continuity of gastric mucosa, reducing the secretion of hydrochloric acid, and modulating the gastric motor functions. The surface area of ulcers under acetylated PGP treatment was not decreased significantly, although the administration of a‐PGP reduced the transcription of proinflammatory cytokines such as IFN‐α and TNF‐α. Accelerated ulcer healing may result from the influence of glyprolines on elevated angiogenic growth factors such as VEGF and basic fibroblast growth factor.…”

“…Simultaneously, the num ber of the control animals in which the expression of IFNγ, IL 8, and IL 10 genes and the inhibition of transcription of IFNα, IL 1β, IL 6, IL 12, and TNF mRNA was observed increased compared to the intact rats. PGP prevented the development of ethanol induced damages by 40%, with an almost twofold increase in the transcription of the IL 1β mRNA [12]. AcPGP showed no protective antiulcer action, which was not accompanied by significant changes in the cytokine gene expression in the studied group of ani mals.…”
