Aim This study was conducted to examine the opinions of nurses working in surgical wards on recycling and medical waste management. Background Surgical services and operating rooms are the most waste‐generating parts of health institutions. The primary purpose of waste management is to ensure waste minimization and increase recycling. Method In this qualitative study, in‐depth interviews were conducted with 15 nurses. The data were analysed by the content analysis method. The COREQ checklist was used in the study. Results As a result of the study, four main themes were determined: Barriers in medical waste and recycling management, solution suggestions in medical waste and recycling management, waste of medical and consumable materials and the effect of the pandemic process on medical waste and recycling management. Conclusion Medical waste and recycling management was interrupted due to lack of education, emergencies, hiring of untrained personnel and workload. During the pandemic, medical waste increased, and it could not be recycled. The solution suggestions are training at frequent intervals, monitoring by the responsible nurses and imposing sanctions on those who do not comply. Implications for Nursing Management Knowing nurses' obstacles in managing medical waste and recycling and putting forward solutions in this regard affects sustainability. Knowing the obstacles to the management of medical waste and recycling by nurses could help in solutions.

After the sudden advent of COVID-19, the amount of medical waste has escalated to a great extent. The incremented medical waste amidst the pandemic exposes the improper waste management system of various developing countries. India, being one of the prominent developing countries, produces the largest waste in the world. Nonetheless, the Indian waste management system is not able to manage the massive amount of waste generated. Henceforth, this research study approaches to reveal the prominent factors which are causing failure in the system of medical waste management in India. This manuscript mainly focuses on two aspects. Firstly, this paper illuminates the factors which are hindering medical waste management by third-party logistics (3PL). Secondly, this study discusses a unique interval-value intuitionistic fuzzy set (IVIFS) based on Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) to depict graphical causal interrelationships among the factors. In addition, the analytic network process (ANP) is utilized to estimate the influence ranking of each factor. The results of this research anticipate that the transportation and disposal-related constraining factors require more attention from 3PL managers. The current study is unique as it enriches the various hindering factors on 3PL BMW management by discussing the ranking and relationship among factors.

Purpose: In developing countries, the medical waste management and treatment pose a great deal of concern because of the potential health and environmental hazards presented by this waste. Although India has guidelines on preventing and managing waste, the implementation is still difficult due to technological, economic, and social challenges, as well as insufficient training for the staff, students, in charge. This study aimed to measure the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices among allied health science, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and nursing students about biomedical waste management. Design/Methodology/Approach: Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from students of nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and allied health at Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Allied Health Teaching Hospital. Based on the participant responses, statistical analysis was performed to compare the levels of knowledge, attitude, and practices between the study groups. Findings/Results: This study recruited 237 respondents in total, with 59.4% of the female participants and 40.5% of the study respondents representing men. Most (90.8%) of the study population fell within the 21-30 age range. The study analyzed students' knowledge of needlestick injuries in the allied health sciences, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and nursing fields. Only PhD Scholars from Allied health science and Nursing Students had (>90%) excellent knowledge about this topic. 42 (84%) Nursing, 20 (80%) Pharmacy, 13(26%) Allied health and 35 (70%) Physiotherapy undergraduate's students had suffered from needle stick injuries in the past 24 months. Originality/Value: According to the study, there is a dearth of knowledge and awareness among students studying allied health sciences, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and nursing at private medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, India, concerning the risks associated with BM waste generation and the related laws and management.
