“…Physical exercise can improve the strength of paraspinal muscles, provide support for the spine, and contribute to the proliferation of IVD cells. Buyukturan et al 30 conducted a randomized controlled trial that revealed that exercise can relieve pain and enhance muscle endurance. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation can also relieve pain according to two trials 31,32 ; however, it does not show any advantages compared with the exercise therapy.…”

“…The first exercise, sling exercise, was conducted in 30-min sessions per week based on Neurac's treatment method. Exercise methods included core cervical spine flexor strengthening (Buyukturan et al, 2017), scapula retractor strengthening (Fennell et al, 2016), and scapular protractor strengthening (Cools et al, 2005). Based on Kendall exercise method, this also was performed in 30-min sessions per week for 16 weeks.…”

“…Due to aging, lack of neck muscle exercise, and chronic abnormal use of the cervical spine, cervical degeneration diseases have become a common problem in the middle-aged and elderly population ( Buyukturan et al, 2017 ; Wada et al, 2018 ; Kumagai et al, 2019 ; Tamai et al, 2019 ). Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has become the standard clinical procedure for the treatment of cervical myelopathy and radiculopathy, which can directly remove the compression of intervertebral discs, posterior longitudinal ligaments, and osteophytes on the spinal cord to relieve the symptoms of nerve compression ( Zhu et al, 2013 ; Findlay et al, 2018 ).…”
