Cephalic version by moxibustion for breech presentation

Abstract: This review found limited evidence to support the use of moxibustion for correcting breech presentation. There is some evidence to suggest that the use of moxibustion may reduce the need for oxytocin. When combined with acupuncture, moxibustion may result in fewer births by caesarean section; and when combined with postural management techniques may reduce the number of non-cephalic presentations at birth, however, there is a need for well-designed randomised controlled trials to evaluate moxibustion for breec… Show more

“…This reduction was less for countries with high national perinatal mortality rates [99]. Evidence exists in which moxibustion has no impact in reducing the need for ECV (RR 0.67 95% CI 0.34, 1.32) [100] but there is a need for well-designed RCTs to establish further evidence of the effectiveness of the intervention.…”

“…The results suggest that moxibustion may be effective to reduce the external cephalic version need and caused a reduction in the use of oxytocin. However, some additional evidence is needed to confirm (or to reject) a benefit with respect to the breech presentation correction (Coyle et al, 2005;Hutton & Hofmeyr, 2006).…”
