<p>Smart home systems become an interesting topics in the last few years. Many researchers have been studied some features. Most of smart home system use a centralized architecture know as centralized smart home system (CSHS). The centralizedmechanism is easy to manage and to configure. However, in fault-tolerant systemparadigm it produces a problem. The entire system will fail, if the master station fails.Another problem of CSHS is centralized mechanism gives more data-flow. This condition makes the system has a greater delay time. To solve the problem, we proposea distributed rule execution mechanism (DREM). Compared to the centralized mechanism, the DREM allows a device to provide its service without any commands fromthe master station. In this mechanism, since the information does not need to go tothe master station, the data-flow and the delay-time can be decreased. The experimentresults show that the DREM is able to mask the failure in the master station by directlytransmit the data from trigger device to service device. This mechanism makes the services provision without master station possible. The mathematical analysis also shows that the delay time of the service provision of the DREM is less than the delay time ofCSHS.</p>

Domestic appliances play a vital role in modern households. Appliances help simplify domestic work, but individuals become dependent on them. The present paper aims to contribute to the long-standing dilemma among scholars whether domestic appliances help to shorten the time devoted to household chores or not. The paper focuses on the utilization of various domestic appliances in Slovak households and on the influence of their utilization on the time of men and women in partner households and in the single-person households devoted to routine unpaid work activities. The results of the paper are based on the data from original field research conducted in Slovakia in 2015. A total of 1179 partner households, 182 single-man households and 226 single-woman households were included in the analysis. The jamovi version 1.2 statistical program was used to verify the hypothesis by chi-squared goodness of fit test and nonparametric Mann–Whitney U-test. In partner households and in single-man households, usage of automatic washing machines significantly influences time devoted to preparation and maintenance of the clothes. In single-woman households, usage of dishwasher significantly influences time devoted to food preparation. In partner households, men devote less time to routine unpaid work activities than women, regardless of usage or non-usage of domestic appliances.

A Sidechain-Based Decentralized Authentication Scheme via Optimized Two-Way Peg Protocol for Smart Community

In this work, we propose a novel sidechain structure via an optimized two-way peg protocol for device authentication in the smart community in order to overcome the limitations of existing approaches. The proposed scheme uses private side blockchains to distribute and manage the local registration and authentication processes, in addition to a local mainchain block to circulate the information record with other smart systems. More importantly, we propose the optimized two-way peg protocol in the proposed sidechain system in order to prevent the worthless information injection attack during the authentication information sharing procedure between the main chain and side blockchains. The optimized two-way peg protocol supervises the availability of the required information by dynamically evaluating the trustworthiness of each smart device. The evaluation is based on numerous criteria, such as the authentication method, previous authentication information sharing history, and local authentication results. Consequently, the simulation results prove the superiority of the proposed scheme in terms of reducing authentication time, improving information management efficiency and decreasing storage consumption as compared to existing works, and the applicability and feasibility of the optimized two-way peg protocol have been approved. It is noteworthy that the proposed sidechain-based method shows its superiority in reducing the cost of authentication time compared with the blockchain-based method when using blockchain structure. The reflected savings are 33.33%, 34.29%, and 36.36% when in comparison to the conventional authentication process without applying any additional method, the authentication process using the proposed sidechain based method, and the authentication process using the blockchain based method, respectively.
