Central neurocytomas

Abstract: RESULTS.The overall 5-year survival and local control rates were 81% and 79%, Mark K. Lyons, M.D. 6 respectively. No patient developed metastases. The 5-year local control rate was 70% for patients undergoing subtotal resection (STR) and 100% for those undergo-1 Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, Department of Radiaing gross total resection (GTR) (P Å 0.08). The 5-year survival rate was 77% for tion Oncology, Scottsdale, Arizona.patients undergoing STR and 90% for those undergoing GTR (P Å 0.44). The effect 2 Mayo Clinic… Show more

“…Rades et al [29] found that incomplete tumor resection followed by radiotherapy was superior to incomplete resection alone with significantly better local control, but there was not a significant improvement in survival. Schild et al [30] demonstrated that the 5-year local control rate for residual central neurocytoma was 100% with radiation compared to 50% without radiation (p < 0.02). Kulkarni et al [27] followed up seven patients who were treated with whole brain irradiation after stereotactic biopsy.…”

“…The 10-year local control rates were 78.3% in GTR group, 92.3% in GTR+RT group, 37.7% in STR group, and 79.4% in STR+RT group. Similar findings were also published by Schild et al [27]; local control rate was found to be 100% for RT-added group, whereas it dropped to 50% in surgery-only group. The 5-year survival rates were not statistically significant in the two groups (88% vs 71%).…”

“…Chemotherapy has only been used in a few EVN cases, including four patients who received chemotherapy after radiation, resulting in no tumour progression. 22 In a small patient series from the Mayo Clinic, two patients with EVN, with codeletions of 1p/19q, received temozolomide chemotherapy. 4 The present case received temozolomide chemotherapy after the second resection, but the effect of this treatment is unclear due to the brevity of the follow-up period, although the patient was well at the time of publication.…”
