“…Cellulose-SO 3 H has been introduced also as a heterogenous solid acid catalyst for the synthesis of quinolines (Shaabani and Maleki 2007), α-amino nitriles (Shaabani et al 2008), dibenzo xanthenes (Madhav et al 2009), 2-oxazolines, 2-imidazolines and 2-thiazolines (Shaabani et al 2009), tetrahydroquinolines (Kumar et al 2010a), functionalized pyrrolidines (Kumar et al 2010b), as well as tetrahydropyranols (Subba Reddy et al 2010). In fact, it has been reported that cellulose-SO 3 H makes the process economically possible for large-scale synthesis of tetrahydropyranols.…”

“…An efficient protocol for the synthesis of aryl-14H-dibenzo[a.j]xanthene derivatives from the β-naphthol and corresponding aromatic aldehydes was developed by Madhav and co-workers, 30 in the presence of catalytic amount of cellulose sulfuric acid (CSA) under solvent-free condition at 100 o C to afford excellent yield of the products (Scheme 6). There was no significant change in the yield of the products, when the reaction was carried out at 120 o C instead of 110 o C, but at 100 o C the yield of the products becomes lower.…”

“…[11][12] Similarly bisnaphthol derivatives are applicable as non-linear optical materials, ionselective electrodes or sensors, chiral ligands in organometallic chemistry, synthetic precursors for the formation of spirans and sometimes, as high-performance liquid chromatography stationary phases with some modifications. 13 21 Most of the acid catalysed synthesis of dibenzoxanthene (Scheme 2) described the selective formation of required product without the intermediary of aryl or alkyl di-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methanes under solventfree thermal treatment or in microwave irradiation. The literature survey shows few reports on the synthesis of aryl or alkyl di-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl) methane from aldehydes and 2-naphthol.…”
