“…Comparing their results, it can be concluded that these phytoplankton species are much more sensitive to the action of estrogens than the tested A. variabilis. The results obtained by Liu et al (2010) , respectively. This confirms that the occurrence of synthetic EE2 in the aquatic environment has a more profound effect on the growth of algae than natural estrogens.…”

“…Correa-Reyes et al (2007) reported that the microalga Isochrysis galbana was able to bioconcentrate NP 6940 times, which was then transferred to the organisms feeding on the algae. Liu et al (2010) also reported the 96-h BCF value for NP to be 2077 when the marine diatom Navicula incerta was exposed to 0.001 mg/L of the target compound. The present and previous studies all showed that the two alkylphenols NP and OP could enter aquatic food chains through algal bioaccumulation and might subsequently pose potential risks to organisms at higher trophic levels via biomagnification along food chains.…”

“…Based on the measured concentrations, the removal efficiency (R), bioconcentration factor (BCF), bioaccumulation percentage (BAP) and biodegradation percentage (BDP) of NP and OP by the algal biomass were calculated as previously described (Li et al, 2009;Liu et al, 2010) with minor modifications according to the following Eqs. (9)- (12).…”
