Cell wall localized poly P could also be involved in the sequestration of cations (Kornberg et al, 1999) or the protection from the toxic eVects of heavy metals (Latha et al, 2005) and exerts antimicrobial activity against many bacteria or fungi (Jen and Shelef, 1986;Maier et al, 1999). The detection of poly P in cell walls of an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (G. intraradices) as well as two ectomycorrhizal fungi (P. panuoides and P. arhizus) might also indicate a role of cell wall localized poly P in the phosphate transfer in mycorrhizal interactions.…”
