“…Its main disadvantages are its operator dependency and its occasional unsuitability for imaging extremely obese patients. Color Doppler patterns of abdominal aneurysms include high velocity central jets, bidirectional or swirling flow, very low flow adjacent to the aneurysm wall, and a mosaic color pattern [4]. Helical CT is also useful in imaging abdominal vascular structures and has a number of advantages.…”

“…Because of these potentially devastating consequences, appropriate and timely diagnosis and management of SMA aneurysms is essential to achieve satisfactory clinical outcomes [3]. Recently, the chances of detecting SMA aneurysm have been increasing with the advances in diagnostic instruments, such as abdominal ultrasonogram, CT scan, CT angiogram and three-dimensional (3-D) MD CT [4,5]. In our case, a huge SMA aneurysm was incidentally detected by ultrasound and subsequent 3-D MD CT provided a precise anatomic detail of SMA aneurysm and guided optimal surgical plan for this particular patient.…”

“…Although the risk of aneurysm rupture is low (15%-20%), 16 the mortality rate of ruptured aneurysm is 80% to 100% in contrast to 5% to 10% for nonruptured aneurysms. 16,17 Arteriography is still considered the gold standard, 18 but sonography and computed tomography (CT) are the basic tools in the diagnostic workup of VAAs. Arteriography may be required for the preoperative exact localization of the aneurysm and for the evaluation of other arteries.…”

“…Sonography is being used more in the early evaluation of VAA/VAD as it is a safe, noninvasive, and quick imaging modality, and the literature review suggests that more cases are being diagnosed by sonography. 18 Once the diagnosis of CAA/CAD is confirmed by angiography, the treatment choices include elective open operative repair, percutaneous embolization, and endovascular stent graft placement. 22…”

“…2 Once the diagnosis of CAA is suspected, more thorough evaluation can be made with abdominal color Doppler ultrasonography and/or 3-dimensional abdominal CT angiography. 7,16 Complete preoperative visceral artery arteriography is required to define the precise location of the lesion as well as to evaluate the distal anatomy.…”
