CE-Chirp® ABR in cerebellopontine angle surgery neuromonitoring: technical assessment in four cases

Abstract: Continuous monitoring of wave V of auditory brainstem response (ABR), also called brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP), is the most common method used in intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) functionality of cochlear nerve during surgery in cerebellopontine angle (CPA). CE-Chirp® ABR represents a recent development of classical ABR. CE-Chirp® is a new acoustic stimulus used in newborn hearing testing, designed to provide enhanced neural synchronicity and faster detection of larger amplitude wave V. In f… Show more

“…Results of hearing preservation in AN surgery have also improved over the past decades, especially in treatment of smaller tumors. In our series, the recent use of intraoperative ABRs with CE-Chirp stimulus 26 improved intraoperative monitoring of hearing, with quick brain stem evoked responses after stimuli. For attempting hearing preservation, we selected patients belonging to classes A and B of the AAO-HNS classification.…”

“…In the last 12 cases, we used ABR neuromonitoring evoked with CE-Chirp stimuli (Interacoustics Eclipse EP15 ABR system). 26 In both L-and C-groups, there were 36 patients AAO-HNS class A or B, with reproducible responses that allowed a continuous intraoperative ABR monitoring of cochlear nerve.…”

“…[6,7,27,37,[46][47][48][49]. Using the intraoperative monitoring with quick brainstem evoked responses and CE-Chirp stimulus effect on the results of hearing preservation [50]. Of course we selected only patients belonging to classes A and B of the AAO-HNS classification pre-operatively for determining the rate of hearing preservation considering that this kind of selection makes selection bias in the results.…”

“…In all cases, brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER) with LS-CE-Chirp (Interacoustics Eclipse-EP15-ABR-System, Copenhagen, Denmark) stimulus was performed to provide intraoperative control hearing function. 14 The retrosigmoid craniectomy was $ 2.5 cm 2 , with exposure of the sigmoid and transverse sinuses. The dura mater was opened, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was slowly released from the arachnoid cisterns to obtain cerebellar hemisphere decompression.…”
