CdO-Fe3O4 nanocomposite with enhanced magnetic and photocatalytic properties

Abstract: Pure CdO nanopowder and CdO-Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposite were synthesized by a cost effective chemical method, and the samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, FT-IR, UV-Vis-NIR and PL. Also, magnetic and photocatalytic properties of the synthesized samples were studied. XRD patterns of the composite confirm the presence of diffraction peaks related to both CdO and Fe 3 O 4 . EDX spectrum confirms the presence of the elements Cd, O and Fe in the composite. Peaks related to Cd-O and Fe-O bonds were observed respe… Show more

“…The FT-IR spectra (Figure 12) denote the attachment/ presence of arsenic with the increase in shifting of peaks around 797.89 cm À1 , 39,40 of lead around 682.4 cm À1 , 41 cadmium around 531.94 cm À1 , 42 944.60 cm À1 , 43 and chromium around 642.87 cm À1 , 44 thus providing evidence to our work.…”

“…The XRD spectra of pristine and doped CdO samples, as depicted in Figure a, were performed to examine Fe influence on structural and phase composition analysis of host lattice CdO. Peaks situated at 2θ = 33.25, 39.02, 56.17, 65.96, and 68.92 were indexed to (111), (200), (220), (311), and (222) planes consecutively and match JCPDS# 73-2245 well . The XRD spectra presented cubic and polycrystalline structures of CdO and Cd 2+ , which may be replaced by Fe 2+ ions at octahedral coordination .…”

“…To analyze the chemical bond structure, the FTIR technique is the most common, which recorded spectra of pristine and doped samples in the 4000 to 500 cm –1 range, as shown in Figure d. The band nearby 680 cm –1 is ascribed to the Cd–O stretching vibration . The signal at 3420 cm –1 is related to the OH stretching vibration of atmospherically absorbed water molecules, while at 2355 and 1626 cm –1 , it attributes to the adsorbed CO 2 and C–O vibrations, respectively .…”

“…The trapped electrons migrating into the valence band at the Ni interstitial are thought to be responsible for the strong violet emission peaks at 408 and 423 nm 40 . In CdO–NiO–Fe 2 O 3 nanocomposites, band gap defects such as oxygen vacancies were responsible for the weak blue emission peaks between 463 and 494 nm 56 , 57 .
