CD13 Autoantibodies Are Elevated in Sera From Mothers of Infants With Neonatal Cholestasis of Different Causes

Abstract: The significantly higher frequency of CD13-specific autoantibodies in mothers of infants with neonatal cholestasis of all forms compared with mothers of healthy infants without cholestasis suggests an association, but does not prove that they are pathogenic. The presence of CD13-specific autoantibodies does not correlate with HCMV IgG serostatus, suggesting a more complicated mechanism that possibly reflects active HCMV infection in these individuals. Further studies are needed to elucidate whether these autoa… Show more

“…Jaundice was temporarily improved with ganciclovir. Previous reports showed that CMV is associated with hepatitis and BA ( 12 , 13 ). These suggested that not only CPHD but also CMV might have contributed to cholestasis in our case.…”

“…However, careful attention to the patient’s history can be informative. For example, Wetzler et al recently described a case report of an adolescent that described an inability to drink from a water fountain without coughing, due to his H-type fistula [ 11 ]. Our patient described the ability to reflux quantities of food and liquid on command.…”

“…[5][6][7][8][9] Based on Xu et al, 2017 study found that CD13-specific autoantibodies, known to be induced by HCMV infection, that exist in mothers of infant cholestasis but not in mothers of healthy infants. 10 The incidence of cholestasis increases in infants with less gestational age and low birth weight babies, because it is associated with impaired liver function. Other risk factors associated with cholestasis are babies who experience recurrent sepsis and parenteral nutrition.…”
