Causes and Reasons of Insect Decline and the Way Forward

Abstract: There are lot of reasons and causes of insect decline. The main causes of insect decline is attributed to habitat destruction, land use changes, deforestation, intensive agriculture, urbanization, pollution, climate change, introduction of invasive insect species, application of pesticides, mass trapping of insects using pheromones and light traps, pathological problems on various insects, and introduction of exotic honey bees in new areas that compete with the native bees for resource portioning and other man… Show more

“…The changes in the diversity of vegetation communities can cause variations in specific patterns of locust biodiversity because grasshoppers usually had a special dependence on vegetation and microclimate [18]. It was followed by the results of observations that showed the first location had the highest riparian vegetation diversity among others.…”

“…Insect abundance is also influenced by temporal changes, which is a common spectacle in any ecosystem [50]. Other factors that control insect populations during a particular season include the unavailability of food, the dominance of insect predators and parasites, the competition for resources, and habitat destruction [51,52].…”

“…The obtained results can help to develop the mitigation strategies to overcome the substantial economic and health concerns of the local insect population in Pakistan [77]. Other influencing factors such as shortage of food, competition for resources, temperature, snow-fall and habitat destruction can also contribute to the survivorship of insects during the colder months [95,96].…”
