Riparian vegetation habitats in irrigation canals provide various ecosystem regulatory services for human life, one of them was providing natural enemies for agricultural pests. This study aims to analyze the abundance of natural enemies at the paddy field, then to figure out the interaction between the riparian vegetation and natural enemies based on four different locations of tertiary irrigation canals at Slamet Village. Arthropods were observed by visual control and yellow pan trap methods. Whereas, riparian vegetation sampling points were determined by purposive sampling. The measured riparian vegetation and natural enemies were described by the important value index (INP), abundance, Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H'), evenness (E), dominance index (Id), and taxa richness (TR). The interaction between the riparian vegetation and natural enemies was analyzed by the PAST 3.20 program. The results showed that the first location of irrigation canals had the highest Shannon-Wiener Index value, taxa richness, evenness, and the lowest dominance value of riparian vegetation with respectively 4.97; 37 species; 0.93; and 0.02. Moreover, it was following with the highest value of natural enemies taxa richness (16 species), total abundance (4450 individuals), H' index (2.37), evenness (0.59), and low dominance index (0.27). Arthropods that act as natural enemies that were commonly found in this location came from the Formicidae, Coenagrionidae, and Coccinelidae families, while the most common pests found are from the Acrididae families. The opposite of that, the fourth location had the highest value of dominance index of riparian vegetation and pest arthropods (0.15; 0.84), H’ index of pest (2.31), taxa richness of pest (0.77), and the total abundance of pest arthropod (942 individuals). Pests that inhabit this location came from the Acrididae, Drosophilidae, Tephritidae, and Aphididae families

The study of Hymenoptera diversity and phenology holds significant importance for basic and applied scientific objectives. The present knowledge on the worldwide fauna diversity of Hymenoptera is good but exact data for Pakistan especially for the Hymenopterous fauna of Balochistan has not yet been updated. This geographical area presents an opportunity for the discovery of previously undocumented insect species. This study represents the first DNA barcode analysis in this research area, for a detailed picture of Hymenoptera. Out of the 8430 collected specimens, 810 insect specimens were morphologically identified as Hymenoptera, representing 50 species belonging to 11 families and 40 genera. These specimens were collected using a Malaise trap for 52 weeks, from 11 th December 2018 to 10 th December 2019. For further confirmation, the collected insect specimens were analyzed by sequencing cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (DNA barcode) and BINs were assigned to the Barcode of Life Data Systems. Based on molecular analysis, eight species representing three families and four genera were identified, and respective barcode index numbers (BINs) were assigned to them. Among them, four new species were recorded and two unique BINS (BOLD:AET0858 and BOLD:AET2316) were assigned to Chrysis castillana and Anthophora quadrimaculata, which had not previously been documented in the DNA barcode database. The most dominant species was Camponotus compressus (Fabricius, 1787), which was found throughout the year and had the highest mean population density. The order Hymenoptera holds great significance for humans, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions, due to its role as a pollinator of wild and cultivated flowering plants, parasites of destructive insects and honey producers. Despite this importance, limited attention has been given to the genetic diversity and molecular identification of Hymenopteran insects in most protected areas. This study provides insights into the first DNA barcode of Hymenopteran insects collected from Hazarganji Chiltan National Park (HCNP) and contributes to the global reference library of DNA barcodes. A total of 784 insect specimens were collected using Malaise traps, out of which 538 (68.62%) specimens were morphologically identified as Hymenopteran insects. The highest abundance of species of Hymenoptera (133/538, 24.72%) was observed during August and least in November (16/538, 2.97%). Genomic DNA extraction was performed individually from 90/538 (16.73%) morphologically identified specimens using the standard phenol-chloroform method, which were subjected separately to the PCR for their molecular confirmation via the amplification of cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene. The BLAST analyses of obtained sequences showed 91.64% to 100% identities with related sequences and clustered phylogenetically with their corresponding sequences that were reported from Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Finland, Germany, India, Israel, and Pakistan. Additionally, total of 13 barcode index numbers (BINs) were assigned by Barcode of Life Data Systems (BOLD), out of which 12 were un-unique and one was unique (BOLD: AEU1239) which was assigned for Anthidium punctatum. This indicates the potential geographical variation of Hymenopteran population in HCNP. Further comprehensive studies are needed to molecularly confirm the existing insect species in HCNP and evaluate their impacts on the environment, both as beneficial (for example, pollination, honey producers and natural enemies) and detrimental (for example, venomous stings, crop damage, and pathogens transmission).
