Catalytic wet oxidation of reactive dyes in water

Abstract: In the presence of small amount of H 2 the Pd-Pt/Al 2 O 3 bimetallic catalysts showed excellent activity toward wet oxidation of reactive dyes due to the combined roles of faster redox cycle and the formation of H 2 O 2 .

“…13 Mesoporous silica systems graed with a Schiff base moiety can be used as efficient catalysts for the degradation of dye molecules such as methyl orange, phenol red, methylene blue, rosebengal, sudan-III and reactive red. [14][15][16][17][18] The development of inexpensive, stable, efficient and band-gap tunable MOF based photocatalysts is still a major challenge, since they have a tendency to absorb the dye molecules by electrostatic interactions with surface containing hydroxyl groups. The high surface area materials have a tendency to absorb and activate the dye molecules to their excited states.…”

“…161 Pd-Pt on alumina was used to remove reactive dye with an excess of oxygen and in the presence of 1% of hydrogen. 162,163 TOC removal increased from ∼40% to almost 100% by adding a small amount of hydrogen to the gas under the same process conditions. The dye was found to be adsorbed easier on the reduced Pt surface than on the oxidized Pt surface, and this is an essential step of CWAO.…”
