Catalytic Reduction of p-Nitrophenol Using Chitosan Stabilized Copper Nanoparticles

Abstract: A range of chitosan stabilized copper (chi-Cu) nanoparticles have been prepared and characterized using UV-Vis, TEM and FTIR. The chi:Cu ratios affect the morphologies and sizes of the outcome Cu particles. The rate constant (k) of the catalytic reduction of p-nitrophenol follows the decreasing trend of the chi:Cu ratio viz. 2:1 [ 4:1 [ 6:1 [ 1:5. These trends are believed to be closely related to the size and accessibility to the Cu particles in the colloids. Graphical Abstract

“…[132] It is conceivable that W and Fe behave similar to Mo and that their active forms have similar structures, since they also exhibit an induction period and were shown to form carbidic phases at reaction conditions. “…Free Fe 31 ions are known to show the 2p 1/2 band at about 724 eV and 2p 3/2 band at about 711 eV. 36 When the Fe 31 ions coordinate with COO 2 groups in the F 2 Ac 20 MC gels, the 2p 3/2 band became weak and the 2p 1/2 band disappeared ( Fig. 10).…”

“…The dominant peak in the Fe 2p spectrum (2p5/2 band, Figure 3d) at 706.84 eV points to a zero-valent Fe (24.7%), whereas the peak at 707.90 eV (12.4%) points to Fe carbides. [19] Additional peaks in the 2p5/2 band at higher binding energies result from Fe 2þ and Fe 3þ species. Similarly, most of the surface Co atoms were present as Co 2þ and Co 3þ species, as shown in Figure 3e.…”
