Catalytic conversion of methyl oleate to hydrocarbons: impact of cobalt oxide species integration in SiO2–Al2O3

Abstract: A unique, high surface area Co3O4/SiO2–Al2O3 catalytic system has been developed for the selective deoxygenation of biomass to high quality diesel-grade hydrocarbons.

“…The support SiO 2 –Al 2 O 3 was synthesized by following the previously reported procedure from our group. 20 The as-synthesized silica–alumina support (1 g) was dissolved in 40 mL of aqueous HNO 3 solution (3N) followed by the addition of the appropriate amount of ferric nitrate solution into a beaker. The obtained solution was homogenized using ultrasonication for 20 minutes and magnetically stirred for 2 h at room temperature.…”

“…Previously, we have reported three main i.e., hydrodeoxygenation (HDO), decarboxylation (DCO 2 ), and decarbonylation (DCO) to produce biodiesel and bio-jet fuel. 20 Table 2 summarises the product yields of bio-jet fuel (C8 to C15), including the iso-alkane fractions suitable for the jet fuel compositions. The GC chromatogram of methyl oleate in Fig.…”

“…The deoxygenation methodology was adapted from the literature [52,53] for a 100 mL Parr reactor model 4590 HP. To the reactor was added 0.7 mL of canola FAME, 10 mL of mili-Q water and 150 mg of catalyst (3%Ru-0.1%Co/HPS).…”
