Abstract: The relegation of qualitative research to subordinate status decades ago has given way to its appreciation as a means of conducting studies that beg for deep thrust, humanistic adjustment and rich interpretation. Hence attention is now focused on when it should be used as opposed to relevance and credibility issues. This literature review argues to emphasize the place of qualitative research through its need and relevance before focusing on the case study method by unraveling its significance, what it does and… Show more

“…An intrinsic qualitative case study which focuses on an individual, a unit or an institution and builds on the lived experiences of the unit/institution or the members making up the group (Stake 1995), was adopted to explore the lived experiences (Creswell 2014;Stake 1995Stake , 2010 of extension services in the rural AND in Ghana. The adopted approach was useful as this study sought to have a better understanding of extension services and climate change adaptation in the district (Njie and Asimiran 2014). Again, the intrinsic case study allowed for an in-depth information from the natural setting of extension providers and smallholder farmers (Creswell 2014;Yin 2004).…”
